Brandon Runk captured the 2026 Greater Iowa Bowling Association Ebonite Fall Classic title on September 13 at Maple Lanes in Waterloo, Iowa. Runk defeated fellow left-hander Tristian Albrecht, 256-222, in the championship match to complete a strong weekend at one of Iowa’s most established regional events.
The tournament drew 168 entries and featured qualifying on Saturday followed by semifinal play and a modified stepladder final on Sunday. The event was boosted by increased sponsorship and prize money, making it the richest GIBA Ebonite Classic to date.
Runk Leads From Qualifying
Runk set the pace early, totaling 1,572 for seven qualifying games, an average of 224.57. His performance placed him atop the qualifying standings as the field was cut to the top 56 bowlers for Sunday’s six-game semifinal round.
With pins carrying over through the event, consistency mattered. Runk maintained his position through the semifinal round and earned his place in the stepladder finals.
A Strong Finish
In the title match, Runk finished the job with a 256 game against Albrecht’s 222. The win marked Runk’s second straight GIBA Ebonite Fall Classic victory and continued a notable trend: left-handers have now won six consecutive editions of the event.
The championship match highlighted the demanding nature of the tournament format. Bowlers had to manage a long competitive block, adapt to transition, and deliver under the pressure of match play at the end of the weekend.
